This year, GEMS Nairobi became an accredited Duke of Edinburgh Award Centre meaning the school is licensed to deliver the award programme to its students. Under the leadership of Mr Michael Muteshi, an award recipient himself, the school is keen to have our students participate in this world wide recognized award scheme to support their personal development and as a result boost their chances of enrolling in great universities worldwide and leverage themselves positively in the job market.

This November, the Water Warriors have been to the battle front (better known as competitions) a few times. Under the proud leadership of the GEMS Aquatic Director, Ms Gemma Ritche (and her able assistants) the team has added 42 new medals to their war chest this month; 30 from the International School of Kenya (ISK) Gala held on the 10th and 11th November 2017 and 12 from the national swimming competition held in Mombasa at the beginning of the month.

Last Friday’s Super Citizen assembly was a lot of fun! In a change from the usual (and always refreshing) entertainment from GEMS students, we had the talented ‘Billian Music Family’ on stage, with our students losing the battle to restrain themselves from moving (as far as their seats would allow) to the beat.

At GEMS Cambridge International School Nairobi, we recently held our annual election. At the beginning of every academic year, the school conducts an election that sees a fresh set of school prefects placed in office. While our election may not have been as newsworthy as the national elections, the early lessons in leadership and democracy being imparted on our students are worth celebrating.

Last Friday, we had the Super Citizen Assembly at the school auditorium. The assembly is held every month and is a celebration of students who are in pursuit of GEMS core values; to be not just great students but great people!
